How to Deal With Loneliness on Valentine’s Day

It is Valentine’s Day my dudes. And look, love is great and all—but if you’re not in that space right now, this time of year can feel pretty lonely.

But here’s the thing: feeling lonely doesn’t mean you are alone. So if February 14th has got you feeling a bit off, here are a few ways to get through it. You can either watch Si talk through it in video format, or read it below as a blog!

1. Make Plans (Even If They’re Just for You)

If you’re worried about feeling lonely on Valentine’s Day, plan something to do that’s just for you. It doesn’t have to be a big event—just something that makes the day feel yours.

  • Treat yourself to a film night (bonus points for a non-romantic movie!)
  • Plan a day out doing something you love
  • Book in a call or hangout with a friend (literally, get it in the calendar so you both commit to it!)
  • Go to your favourite coffee shop with a book and some good music

If you fill the day with things that bring you joy, it starts feeling less like something to get through and more like just a fun filled day.

2. Show Love to Your People

Romantic love gets all the attention on Valentine’s Day, but what about the people who always have your back? Use today as a chance to show love to the mates, family, or even online pals who make life better.

  • Send someone a message telling them you appreciate them
  • Make a playlist for a friend (shoutout to the golden age of mix CDs)
  • Write a note to remind someone why they’re awesome

Spreading love—whether that’s to friends, strangers, or even a pet—can make any day feel less isolating.

We may be biased, but this long sleeve that shares the message “I’m glad you exist” when you’re about to hug someone is the perfect way to show some love to your people!

3. Do Something That Makes You Feel Connected

Loneliness isn’t just about being alone—it’s about feeling disconnected. So today, do something that helps you feel part of something bigger:

  • Volunteer or do a small act of kindness for someone else (we always need volunteers in the shop, just sayin’ 👀)
  • Get involved in an online community (gaming, music, art—whatever your thing is)
  • Go to a class, gig, or event where you can be around like-minded people

Even a small interaction—chatting with a barista, commenting on a post, or sending a message—can remind you that you are connected to the world around you.

4. Avoid the Scroll Hole

Social media can be pretty brutal on days like this. Seeing post after post of couples can make it feel like everyone is in love and no one understands how you’re feeling. (Spoiler: that’s not true, but it feels true when you’re scrolling.)

If you know that seeing all that stuff is gonna make you feel worse, give yourself permission to mute, unfollow, or take a break for the day. No shame in protecting your peace.

It’s ok to take a social media break if seeing loads of couple-y posts feels a bit overwhelming. (It’s also not a bad idea to have a bit of a social media detox from time to time in general!)

5. Remind Yourself: This Is Just One Day

Valentine’s Day can feel like the biggest deal when you’re in it, but it’s just one day out of 365. However you feel right now—whether that’s lonely, frustrated, or just a bit “meh”—it will pass. You’re not alone in feeling like this, and there are so many people out there who get it.

If today is feeling extra tough, reach out to someone who makes you feel heard. And if you don’t have that person right now, remember: there are helplines and support networks who are ready to listen.

A Final Thought

Love isn’t just about relationships with other people —it’s about how you treat yourself, too. So whatever you do today, be kind to yourself. And if you need some tips on showing yourself some love, check out the last blog post! You’re doing better than you think, and you deserve good things—on Valentine’s Day, and every other day too.
