Gift Guide for Mental Health
post by Si Martin
This is a gift guide that’s gonna help boost the mental health of whoever you’re gifting it to. Which is cool, and of course, we’d love you to buy stuff & support our work. But I also want to use this as a chance to explore and explain the meanings and messages that have gone into the products that we have on our website and in our Cardiff store.
So if you’re looking to do some gifting this holiday season (or if you’re even after a treat for yourself) that can help promote mental health, and support our work, then this is for you!
Kintsugi Kit
Let’s kick off this mental health gift guide with one of the newest items to land in the store. Kintsugi is a profound Japanese art form that transforms broken pottery by repairing it with gold-filled lacquer, turning damage into a beautiful, celebrated part of an object’s history. This philosophy acts as a powerful metaphor for our own mental health and personal healing. Just as the broken ceramic becomes more valuable and unique after repair, our life experiences—including our struggles and challenges—are not flaws to be hidden, but integral parts of our personal story.
The Kintsugi Kit is more than just a craft activity; it’s a therapeutic journey of self-acceptance. As you carefully piece together broken ceramics, filling the cracks with golden seams, you’re reminded that:
- Healing is not about erasing pain, but integrating it
- Every crack and repair tells a story of resilience
- Imperfections make us uniquely beautiful

‘Waves’ Candle
Aromatherapy offers a gentle, natural approach to supporting mental wellness. This carefully crafted candle, was hand poured in Barry Island, exclusively for Heads Above The Waves by Ynys Aroma. The ‘Waves’ candle was designed to help boost your mood while helping to relieve feelings of anxiety. It’s got a couple of key ingredients that help this:
Rose Geranium:
- Known for its mood-balancing properties
- Can help reduce stress and anxiety
- Promotes feelings of calm and emotional balance
- May help alleviate symptoms of depression
Lemongrass:
- Provides an uplifting, energizing scent
- Can help reduce feelings of nervousness
- Supports mental clarity and focus
- Has potential anti-stress and antidepressant effects
The combination of these essential oils creates a sensory experience that can help create a peaceful, supportive environment for mental well-being.
‘a constant work in progress’ Hoodie
The first piece of clothing in this mental health gift guide! This hoodie is a wearable reminder of personal growth and self-compassion. They’re super heavy weight (400GSM), which some customers have told us gives a level of comfort, kinda like a weighted blanket. So this hoodie is ideal if you’re looking for something comfy & cosy for around the house, or as a warm layer for the winter days!
The message “a constant work in progress” reinforces that personal development is ongoing, and it’s okay to be in various stages of growth and healing.
Home Organiser
A tidy environment isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s a powerful mental health tool. Organising your space can be a great coping mechanism that:
- Reduces anxiety and feelings of being overwhelmed
- Provides a sense of control during uncertain times
- Creates a calm, predictable environment
- Can be a meditative, mindful activity
For folks dealing with mental health challenges, a home organiser can be a gentle way to create structure and calm in their daily life.

“I’m Glad You Exist” Long Sleeve
It’s kinda become one of our iconic items. So this gift guide wouldn’t be complete without mentioning our “I’m Glad You Exist” long sleeve tee. It’s a shirt where the message is printed on the inside of the sleeves, so someone will read it when you’re about to give them a hug.
It’s a cute way of letting someone know how much they mean to you. And so it’s the sort of thing that you could either gift to them, or gift to yourself so that they get to read “I’m glad you exist” as you greet them with a hug.
The Positive Planner
The Positive Planner has been a firm favourite in the shop, so it had to round out our mental health gift guide! Journaling and gratitude practices are scientifically proven mental health support tools. This 12-week journal offers:
- Structured gratitude prompts
- Daily intention-setting guidance
- Space for reflection and self-compassion
Journalling & practising gratitude regularly are going to help boost your wellbeing by helping you to reframe negative thought patterns, increase your self-awareness and help you process emotions.
And one of the biggest selling points if you’re anything like me, is the fact that it’s not dated, so you don’t have to beat yourself up if you miss a day or two. You can pick it right back up where you left off without wasting pages.
